Hello dear parents,

My name is Joy and I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Due to my maternal grandfather having been Swiss, I, too, possess a Swiss passport. After high school, during which I took advanced placement German classes as my foreign language, I moved to Switzerland to pursue a medical degree. Upon not passing the Swiss medical school entrance examination, I decided to study nursing at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). I finished my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree this summer and currently work at the Balgrist University Hospital in an orthopedic ward, which specializes in pediatric and oncology cases.

Working hours:

Since having begun work, I find myself with considerably more free time than when I was working on my bachelor thesis and assorted student projects. Although I work varying shifts (early, late, night), I receive my work-schedule at latest a month in advance. I'd love to use a good deal of my free time in a meaningful environment, in which I can speak English.

Activities:

Having been an early reader (I began when 3-years-old), I have a special appreciation for cultivating the love for reading in children. I'd greatly enjoy reading books of varying difficulty with your children, as well as to help develop their understanding and pronunciation of the English language. In suitable weather, I'd prefer to take your children to a green park and read with them against the backdrop of nature. Drawing and painting are also activities which I'd enjoy to share with your children.

Experience:

During both middle school and high school, I looked after the young children of three families in my neighborhood. It was then that I discovered a love for interacting with and nurturing children.
I could further deepen my knowledge of ideal interaction with children during a ZHAW internship at the Zurich Children's Hospital Rehab Clinic (Kispi Rehaklinik). These four months enabled me to learn from pediatric psychologists, social pedagogues, parents, and of course children who had experienced adverse circumstances themselves. I feel comfortable working with fully healthy children as well as with children who suffer from assorted disorders, diseases, allergies, or intolerances.
